The town of Hastings is east of the lake and near Cobourg. It's perched directly on the Trent River, making it an on-route town by water to Rice Lake and Lake Seymour. As a result, it is popular among cottagers, tourists, fishers, and boaters alike and is well developed and features all the conveniences you need. As you drive to Hastings, you see strikingly surreal hills and valleys and a rural charm which never gets old. Nearby, there are lovely and challenging golf courses and trails for hikers and cyclists.
In the town itself, you can comfortably fish from the dock, or you can enjoy the view from the Hastings Village Marina. If you want to fish from a different spot altogether, Hastings is the only place in Ontario where you can fish from a bridge. You can also check out the country pubs and tea rooms in the town or catch one of the festivals hosted like the Waterfront Festival in August where the Friday Night Fish Fry is always talked about on social media. The weekend during the festival is always full of family friendly activities, live music and the classic car show.
If you happen to be cottaging or visiting the area on Canada Day, we suggest you don't miss it. The fireworks are impressive, and you can see them over the water, and it's incredible! There are also events and a parade you can see with the kids that day! Another activity that is a family tradition is going for ice cream outings. Icecreamville in Hastings Ontario has a patio seating area which is perfect if you want to stick around and relax with the family.
If you're looking for public places to swim in Hastings, check out the beach at Foster Lake, North Bay Beach on Paudash Lake, Wollaston Lake Beach and Papineau Beach. Some of these may require a day trip, but they are worth it. There are also fantastic places to golf such as Salt Golf Links and Pine Ridge Golf and Country Club.
Finally, on rainy days, you can spend time at your cottage relaxing or at the Hasting Field House where you can play indoor soccer, use the pickleball courts, practice your swing in their indoor golf range, and or use their badminton courts.
