Made up of many small villages called hamlets and towns, the region of Asphodel-Norwood has three larger known regions Bridsall, Nordwood and Hastings on the east end of the lake. It is a rural but well-developed area where you can choose between living a suburban lifestyle with country charm, and or living the cottage country life. The region offers both, and what has made it so appealing is its affordability. The Asphodel-Norwood township has excellent schools, libraries, parks, shops, businesses, and emergencies services. There are also very modern amenities such as a skateboard park, children's' splash pad, and other recreational sports arenas. Most impressive is the NHL sized ice rink which has given the town a reputation of being a hockey and figure skating community. A notable event that takes place is the annual Norwood Fall Fair established in 1868 and held during Thanksgiving. It is a continued tradition that celebrates the fall harvest and has fun for the entire family. Other community building activities include the ongoing farmers' markets like the Vanderview Sweet Corn, Veggies & Pumpkins in Norwood from July to October or the Village Market in Hastings. Like all the areas around Rice Lake, there are an ample hiking trails to take advantage of like the Lang-Hastings Trail and the Trans Canada Trail. Boat owners can find access to the water from Asphodel Heights Park or Old Orchard Road Boat Launch in Hastings. There is also the Birdsall Wharf. If you are looking to live the cottage lifestyle, then your focus could be more on the town of Hastings, but if you prefer to live a suburban lifestyle with a short drive to the lake or cottage resorts, then other areas in Asphodel-Norwood may be for you.
